Importance of Rest

Remember, just as it is important to workout, it’s important to rest too. With the holiday season upon us our schedules are going to get even busier, the stores more crowded, and the freeways jammed. All of this only creates more stress in our daily lives. Stress increases cortisol levels in our bodies which increases blood sugar levels. When we are under stressful conditions, cortisol provides the body with glucose by tapping into protein stores via gluconeogenesis in the liver. The glucose (blood sugar) is what gives your body the energy it needs for a fight or flee situation. The problem is when we are stressed we don’t need that blood sugar to fight or flee so it gets stored as fat.

I am working with a client who needed help in reaching her weight loss goals. When talking with her it was evident that she had a lot of stress in her life with work, travel, working out 6 times a week and quite the social calendar. We had to work together to see where she could cut back or make certain tasks easier for herself. She has also changed her workouts to more yoga and walks at the beach and working with her trainer just 2x/week. This will help get her cortisol and blood sugar levels back down to balance her hormones so she can get on track towards her goals.

When I work my clients I provide a holistic solution that brings balance of the mind, body, and soul. So on this Sunday, rest and recharge for a great week ahead!
