Hormone Health Part I

Hormone health is critical to our overall health and wellbeing. Hormone imbalances and their resulting health issues are becoming more common. 20 million Americans have thyroid disease and 30 million Americans have diabetes. Both of these diseases have a major impact on hormone function.

Hormones are chemical messengers in your body. They send messages to our cells so that processes we need to survive can be carried out. Hormones are what regulate critical functions such as sleep and reproduction. All of our hormones work together in a complex system. It is quite incredible. However, when one gets off balance there is a domino effect.

Some symptoms of hormonal imbalance include:
– Tiredness
-Moodiness
-Difficulty losing weight, especially at your waist
-High blood pressure or blood sugar
-Craving salty or sugary foods
-Weak nails or skin conditions like acne
And many more

Here are some foods to crowd out in support of hormonal balance:

1. Processed foods. A diet filled with processed foods has been linked to chronic diseases like cancer and diabetes.

2. Sugar. We know how much damage sugar can have on our bodies. Eating sugary foods can throw your blood sugar levels into a roller coaster. Unregulated blood sugar can become type 2 diabetes over time. Too much sugar can throw off a women estrogen balance which can lead to menstrual problems.

3. Caffeine. Although caffeine has its benefits too much caffeine can have a negative impact on you hormones. It stimulated your adrenal to secrete cortisol, a stress hormone. High stress and a lot of caffeine can lead to inflammation and affect glucose tolerance.

4. Alcohol. Overconsumption of alcohol can definitely impact your hormone balance. it puts a strain on your body particularly the liver, impair fertility and blood sugar regulation.
